Sateen refers to the finish on the cotton - a sateen finish produces a softer feel and a slight sheen due to the use of a different structure in the weaving process.. A sateen finish is not Satin (Satin is made from Polyester). When purchasing sheets please be aware that many sheets on the market claim they have a higher thread count when in actual fact the information can be misleading regarding the surface area the thread count is measured over and the type of cotton used. The standard surface area within Australia is 10cm square (3.14 x 3.14cm). If you purchase from a reputable brand such as Logan & Mason you can rest assured you are receiving a genuine product.
